'The Gift II' is a pair of sculptures that celebrates mothers. For new mums, our very own bodies bring us the gift of a new life, one to whom in turns we gift our bodies to.  First our wombs, our minds, our hearts then our arms, our breasts. For the whole period of breastfeeding a woman's bosom feels like a separate body part to the rest of it. From the second my babies were born, the nurses urged to hand squeeze every drop of gold (colostrum) out of them. From that moment, that most intimate part of me felt detached, or maybe I owuld have preferred for it to have been detached. This is only true parts of the time when a yound mother's exhaustion leads her to daydream of cutting her breasts off for her husand to feed the baby instead.  And at times the breasts allow for the most precious of moments between mother and child. My gift to her becomes her gift to me.
