Penelopes Wheel
2016
'Penelope's Wheel' is an interactive installation where the viewer is invited to lie on Penelope's pink velvet bed to contemplate the light emanating from 12 frosted glass globes or 12 'moons' consecutively glowing one after the other emulating the passing of time. In the Odyssey, Penelope waited for Ulysses to come back home for 20 years, hence this piece being an hommage to her virtue of patience. 

Nowadays, waiting is often symbolised by the computerised 'spinning wheel', which is the main idea behind the series of 12 prints 'A Modern Kind of Patience', punctured prints of a found 120-year old print of Penelope by artist Brend'amour.' 

In order to push her 106 suitors away, Penelope promised them she'd marry one of them the day she'd be done weaving her father-in-law's burial shroud.  So she would weave during the day and unweave at night, so as to never choose a new husband.  This is the idea behind the piece 'RIP' as the embroidery is sewn and then partially unsewn on some canvases. 

'Dear Penelope' is a social experiment where people were able to submit a love letter to their loved one.  In order to stay anonymous they addressed it to 'Penelope' and signed 'Suitor'.  This is an experiment to see ways in which people court each other nowadays and explore the language used.
