'Fertility' plays on the notion of the fertility of the mind, alongside the notion of the origin. 'L’Origine des Sens' - homage to Courbet - invited the public to undergo the sensorial experience of placing their hand inside the fur-lined womb of the sculpture. While some went ahead, most were too scared to do so, dreading 'getting their hands chopped off'. This fear planted in their minds may refer to the 'fear of the unknown' or the 'fear of castration' otherwise known as the myth of the ‘vagina dentata’.
